My First DA Stamp, I've always wanted to make one, but have never had any reason to do so until now.
Anyway, I don't know about you, but I find the "collect" feature rather stupid, I mean do you really need to make it more easier for people to add stuff to their favorites than pushing a button?
To me if someone +fav's my work it generally means a pat on the back and it means a lot to me. But can the same really be said if someone decides to "collect" one or two (or more) of your drawings.
To "Collect" art, you don't even need to click on the thumbnail/link to view it, you can just drag and drop the thumbnail and dump it into your collection. People in general deserve a lot more respect than that... at least if someone +favs your work, they actually took the time to look at it.
Feel free to use this stamp in your journals or wherever.
Note: Adding Thumbnails to journals is a subscriber only feature
I think what DA is going for with the collections, is to encourage visitor's to browse the art that a deviant has faved. Categorizing it makes it less daunting. No picking through those genres you don't find interesting. No sorting through 10 pages of faves to see the two photo manips they enjoyed.
I honestly didn't used to look at an artist's favorites when I looked at their gallery, simply because they often liked some art that I did not care for. Browsing all of it was time consuming. Now if I like, I can just look at the stamps someone has collected, and maybe see one I missed myself. Add it to faves, make a comment, whatever.
It's not actually easier to do the faving at all. But I do believe it will make the browsing experience easier and more satisfying, so I participate. And I don't collect thumbnails. I actually view anything I've collected. I believe most testers do, but even if they don't they are still faving the art and giving exposure. Possibly to someone who would give you the kind of recognition you desire, who might not see it if they hadn't been browsing someones collections? Maybe?
Anyway, just the flip side of the coin that you might not have considered. You have every right to request that people not collect you, but please don't assume that those of us who 'collect' are disrespecting the art.
Well yeah there are pro's and con's to about any feature or element within DeviantArt, regardless of which, you can either sit in the middle ground or pick a preference. I for one, do like how I can put my favorites into neat categories, but I'd rather simply go to a picture and +fav it rather than dump a picture into my collections folder.
Granted, I'm not saying collecting is ultimately a bad thing, and I won't hold it against anyone, if they decide to collect rather than +fav my pictures, but I'm just stating my preference, and I am sure there are others out there who will agree too.
Daily Literature Deviations is a group that is dedicated to bringing literature to the forefront of the deviantArt community. We attempt to accomplish this by daily featuring Literature artists from around the community that deserve the recognition, but are not getting it.
Each day we will feature 10 deviations from the Literature categories in a News Article. In order to support the artists that we feature, we ask that you the news article as well as check out the individual pieces. We understand that each day you may not be able to check out each and every one of the pieces, everyone has their own things going on. We just ask that you make an attempt to help support the growing Literature community.
When it comes to community spirit, `Rushy is a shining example. From participating in devmeets, to providing positive encouragement to other artists, `Rushy can always be found demonstrating what it really takes to be a true deviant. It's without any hesitation that we are delighted to award the Deviousness Award for July 2009 to `RushyRead More
